Vlakbij de Duitse grens, in het prachtige Westerwolde (Zuid-Oost Groningen),ligt de vesting Bourtange. Een uniek historisch verdedigingswerk dat zijn gelijke niet kent. Heden en verleden gaan perfect samen in deze kleine, sfeervolle vestingstad.
Geschiedenis Vesting Bourtange
Vesting Bourtange is een fort in het dorp Bourtange, dat werd gebouwd in de tijd van Willem de Zwijger, rond 1593. Er werd hiermee getracht om de enige doorgangsweg tussen Duitsland en Groningen Stad te beheersen. Tijdens de Tachtigjarige Oorlog werd deze doorgang door de Spanjaarden gecontroleerd.
Bourtange is een prachtige plek om te bezoeken. Er zijn altijd activiteiten, musea en ambachten te zien. Voor jong en oud een beleving.
