De molen in Bourtange is een replica van de standerdmolen in Ter Haar. Deze standerdmolen (gebouwd vóór 1619) is in 1831 verplaatst van Bourtange naar Ter Haar. De huidige molen is gebouwd in 1980 op de plaats waar de oorspronkelijke molen stond om zo de vesting Bourtange weer in de originele staat te brengen.
De molen is geheel gedekt met verticale houten planken en heeft typische Oud-Hollandse wieken, gestoken door een houten as. Het is de meest oostelijke molen van Nederland en de meest noordelijke standermolen van Nederland.
De molen is maalvaardig en er wordt regelmatig op vrijwillige basis koren gemaald als demonstratie.
