Oudeschans is het kleinste Oost-Groningse vestingdorpje (ca. 100 inwoners); ’s zomers een groene oase temidden van landerijen, maar in alle seizoenen het bekijken meer dan waard. Rust, ruimte en natuur gecombineerd met een boeiende geschiedenis...
Oudeschans is ontstaan rond de Bellingwolderzijl (zijl = in zee uitvarende sluis), die in het midden van de 16e eeuw is aangelegd in de Westerwoldsche Aa. Bellingwolderzijl lag aan het open water van de Dollard!
Er is een leuke wandelroute over de vestingwal met interessante bezienswaardigheden. Er is van alles te zien: Een garnizoenskerkje uit 1626, het Kruydenbastion, de dorpsput, de ophaalbrug en nog veel meer.
